The interactive museum of Frida Kahlo is located in the heart of Playa del Carmen, on 5th Avenue. The museum has 9 rooms in which the history of Frida Kahlo, the main Latin American painter, is narrated in a chronological and interactive way. The museum does not have original works of the artist due to the proximity to the sea, since it is impossible to have such a cultural heritage a few meters from the sea and its humidity. The Fifth Avenue is the center of Playa del Carmen's nightlife and shopping area.

Tulum is an almost obligatory place to visit from Playa del Carmen. This important fortress, of more than 1,000 years old, is one of the few Mayan cities built by the sea. It is located about 60 kilometers south from Playa del Carmen and is easily accessible by public transportation. The excursion to Chichen Itza is the most famous one to do in Playa del Carmen. The main pyramid is known all over the world, one of the most representative images of the country. It is also one of the most visited places in Mexico. The archaeological site of Chichen Itza is part of the 7 New Wonders of the Modern World.

Cenotes are found everywhere in the Yucatan Peninsula. They are a natural formation, cave or underground pool, of fresh water. The Mayans believed that they were sacred and used them for ceremonial rites. You can snorkel in them. The most impressive one is the Cenote Ik Kil.

Another recommended place is Akumal, since its main attraction is to be able to swim with turtles. In addition, only 5 kilometers from Playa del Carmen is Xcaret Park, which is both an archaeological site and an ecological park. The Mayans used it as a port and a mercantile center, and the ruins that testify to it have been preserved. It was also converted into a point for the preservation of emblematic species of the fauna of the Atlantic forest region of Mexico, such as the spider monkey, the manatee and the sea turtle.
